SI­GA "Air­tight­ness" Award

Around 50 % of the en­ergy used world­wide is con­sumed in build­ings. Most of this en­ergy is used for heat­ing and cool­ing. An air­tight build­ing en­vel­ope can re­duce en­ergy con­sump­tion and, as a res­ult, sig­ni­fic­antly re­duce cli­mate-dam­aging CO₂ emis­sions. Such a build­ing en­vel­ope also sig­ni­fic­antly im­proves liv­ing com­fort while pre­vent­ing dam­age to the build­ing and ex­tend­ing its ser­vice life.

The SIGA Air­tight­ness Award is presen­ted to a build­ing that is dis­tin­guished by an out­stand­ing air­tight­ness concept in plan­ning and ex­e­cu­tion.

The ev­al­u­ation cri­ter­ia in­clude the fol­low­ing points:

• Im­ple­ment­a­tion (as­sessed by meas­ured air ex­change rate and con­struc­tion site doc­u­ment­a­tion)
• Air­tight­ness concept & air­tight­ness design (as­sessed by tex­tu­al de­scrip­tion and plan de­tails)
• Longev­ity (as­sessed by tex­tu­al de­scrip­tion, pho­tos, de­tailed draw­ings and pos­sibly re­peated air­tight­ness test for older build­ings)
