2020 Passive House Award – Special award
SIGA "Airtightness" Award
Around 50 % of the energy used worldwide is consumed in buildings. Most of this energy is used for heating and cooling. An airtight building envelope can reduce energy consumption and, as a result, significantly reduce climate-damaging CO2 emissions. Such a building envelope also significantly improves living comfort while preventing damage to the building and extending its service life.
The SIGA Airtightness Award is presented to a building that is distinguished by an outstanding airtightness concept in planning and execution.
The evaluation criteria include the following points:
- Implementation (assessed by measured air exchange rate and construction site documentation)
- Airtightness concept & airtightness design (assessed by textual description and plan details)
- Longevity (assessed by textual description, photos, detailed drawings and possibly repeated airtightness test for older buildings)
