Upcoming webinars

December 3, 2025 | 6 PM CET

Project Spotlight: From firehouse to Passive House: Engine 16, New York City

with Soraya López García, Passive House Institute, Amy Failla, Ingui Architecture, and Ed May, bldtyp LLC

Our next iPHA Project Spotlight features Engine 16, a historic New York City firehouse that has been transformed into a fully electric multifamily mixed-use building while achieving EnerPHit certification. A winner of NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence Round 1, the project shows how adaptive reuse can successfully combine preservation and high performance, offering a replicable approach for future retrofits of historic structures.

The presentation will be shared by the architectural lead, Amy Failla, Passive House Designer Ed May, and Passive House Certifier Soraya López García. Together, they will outline the building’s transformation, explain how Passive House principles were integrated into the design and modelling, and discuss key certification considerations and challenges.

As always, the webinar will conclude with an open Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to explore specific aspects of the project and reflect on how lessons learned from Engine 16 can be applied to their own work.
