Heat­ing with heat pumps in Pass­ive House ret­ro­fits

It has long been clear that ex­ist­ing build­ings must be­come com­pat­ible with a cli­mate-friendly en­ergy sys­tem in the com­ing dec­ades. We need to deeply ret­ro­fit build­ings while elec­tri­fy­ing heat­ing in or­der to curb the enorm­ous en­ergy de­mand caused by the build­ing stock.

Dr. Jür­gen Schnieders ex­plains how to in­teg­rate heat pumps in the ret­ro­fit­ting pro­cess in a fin­an­cially sound and cli­mate-friendly way and why we will nev­er re­gret tak­ing every op­por­tun­ity to sub­stan­tially im­prove thermal in­su­la­tion. Typ­ic­al pit­falls on the way to an ef­fi­cient heat pump op­er­a­tion will also be dis­cussed.
