This year’s AECB conference will be held on 11th and 12th July 2014. The conference will take place at Wills Hall, the oldest and most distinctive halls of residence at the University of Bristol, ‘the most liveable city in the UK’ says the dynamic mayor and AECB member, George Ferguson who will open the conference: ‘having steered Bristol to the title of European Green Capital for 2015, George Ferguson says that the city is now doing a lot to make itself worthy of the title, such as setting up an energy company. “We are turning into a solar city and becoming what I describe as a child- friendly city,” (Guardian interview 11/13) This year, low energy retrofit takes a huge step forward as AECB’s Andy Simmonds launches our new Carbonlite retrofit web based course. The usual high quality technical workshops and short presentations discuss the principles, science and details that make low energy retrofit work, we revisit our oldest building material and ask what does sustainability really mean when we build in timber. Plus: tours of Ashley Vale Community Self Build and the big Friday evening panel tackles ‘environmental understanding’. See below for full details.
