The presentation will be on the Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification process and the rather remarkable adventure it has been. A brief overview of the LBC will be followed by a case study of a small educational building in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. The challenges of meeting some of the zero waste and zero water requirements in an urban regulatory setting, the true impact and discourse precipitated by trying to construct using the Redlist standard, and the commitment to electric only energy systems were real shifts in the office mindset.
